Description
Part of the series I Am Always Here, this photograph captures the full Flower Moon rising over the salt marshes of Tollesbury Wick, where the River Blackwater meets the sea.
The image came about after visiting a friend who keeps his studio on a permanently moored boat out on the marsh in Tollesbury Creek. Leaving his studio and stepping up onto the sea wall, the Flower Moon was there, suspended above the quiet landscape. Setting up the tripod, pulling out the 5x4 large format camera, and making a single exposure, the picture was made—a brief, quiet alignment captured in a single moment on sheet film.
The series I Am Always Here explores place, memory, grief, and transcendence. Set along the ancient sea walls and tidal paths of the Blackwater Estuary, the work turns toward an expansive, almost featureless landscape that invites quiet reflection. Here, amidst the big Essex sky and shifting tides, the physical landscape and personal memory interweave. Flower Moon stands as an expression of deep, quiet connection—a realization of presence within the world and within oneself.
Printed to archival fine art standards, this piece brings a quiet, atmospheric stillness and depth to any space.
