Description

Part of the series What Remains, this photograph looks across still, dark water to a steel pipe bridge at Langford, half-claimed by the ivy, reeds and trees around it. The pipe carries water pumped from the River Chelmer to the Langford waterworks, and the title, Artery, takes its name from that quiet, continuous flow.

Rather than seeing the bridge as a human structure set against nature, the photograph explores dependent origination (pratītyasamutpāda): the understanding that nothing exists independently of itself. The bridge, the pipe, the water, the ivy and the trees each depend on the others to be what they are.

What Remains turns toward the quiet space between things. It listens for the stillness where boundaries dissolve, where memory and form interweave, and where in-betweenness becomes the truest relationship of all.

Printed to archival fine art standards, this photograph offers an invitation to pause, look, and enter into undivided presence.
