A Sense of Place - Visit Maldon District

This long-form commission, photographed over six months, was created to build a visual library celebrating the Maldon district — capturing its distinct identity for tourism, relocation, and inward investment. Commissioned by Thinking Place with artistic direction from Peter Robinson Studio, the series explores the area’s rich character, landscapes, and communities.

Maldon is a place of contrasts and continuity — from the wide saltmarsh skies and historic estuary views to vibrant town centres and local enterprise. The series features well-known landmarks such as Promenade Park, the beloved green space on the River Blackwater, and The Hythe Quay, home to the iconic fleet of London sailing barges.

Also captured is the world-famous Maldon Mud Race — a chaotic, joyful celebration of local spirit that brings crowds from across the country. These moments, alongside the quieter rhythms of coastal life and commerce, reveal a district that is both rooted in tradition and open to new opportunity.

The project presents Maldon not just as somewhere to visit — but somewhere to belong.
