Description

Part of the series What Remains, this photograph captures the stone intake tower rising from the calm waters of Llyn Celyn. Titled Cofiwch Tryweryn (Remember Tryweryn), the image holds both historical memory and philosophical inquiry.

Rather than viewing the tower as an isolated human structure set against a natural backdrop, the photograph explores dependent origination (pratītyasamutpāda)—the understanding that nothing exists independently of itself. The tower is inseparable from the water enfolding it, the air surrounding it, the submerged history beneath it, and the total landscape from which it arises. It depends entirely on these surrounding conditions in order to be itself, embodying the paradoxical truth that a rose is not a rose, therefore it is a rose.

What Remains turns toward the quiet space between things. It listens for the stillness where boundaries dissolve, where memory and form interweave, and where in-betweenness becomes the truest relationship of all. Printed to archival fine art standards, this photograph offers an invitation to pause, look, and enter into undivided presence.
